Pauper Love - Straight from the Streets
Ha!
I hear people say, "Mimi sihami Kenya", as for me?
Heh, I HAVE to leave a satellite in NAIROBI, cheeiii!!!
So this morning, as I was carefully minding my business
(like I always do, hahahaha), I get those knowing public notifications that
something interesting is happening at a certain point. Me being, me - sipendi
kupitwa, I directed my gaze to the point of interest... So what people were
staring at was a man on a wheelchair.
I craned my neck to get context (Context people!! Context.
Very important). So, the man on the wheelchair had someone behind him, who had
entwined their hands around his neck. I moved closer to see whether this person
was a man/ woman and WHY, why was he 'manhandling' the underprivileged in this
society? Cheeii people!!! Do you know those words of Isaiah 34:16? Aki I saw
these words come to life this morning!
Turns out, it was a woman. Judging from how they behaved,
they were presumable lovers. So the man was trying to give this babe a ride on
HIS wheelchair!!! The lady had the ENTIRE feminine shebang, the purse, the
headgear and the love struck, she had it all! And, for the life in me, I
KNEW!!!! I was going to ask her why? Why him (You know the way we ask really
old wazungu esp women why they settle down with young men? Yes.) I was GOING to
ask. But as I drew closer, I realized that the lady was barefoot. Like, she had
never worn shoes walking around these streets of Nairobi. I was humbled.
Something about this couple taught me.
As I watched this lady struggle to find the right position
to be carried on this wheelchair, as I watched her give up on herself and coyly
sitting on the pavement with hands on her eyes feigning tears... As I waited
for the man to LEAVE, because you know... that's what some Nairobi men dish out
as courtesy, I was SO humbled by how patient the man was with her/ with the
whole situation. I was awed by how 'in charge' he seemed... He gave her
instructions patiently but in a precision that defies the royalties of this
nation. I loved how the woman, even in her destitute state glowed in her
femininity and how the masculinity of the man was evident! Cheeii,
